I’ve always prided myself on my shootin’ skills. Daddy and Pappy taught me when I was really young and I got (gave myself) the nickname “Di-Annie Oakley” clever right?
Anyway. A few months ago, I saw the cutest bullet earrings on etsy and I knew I had to have them. But then I forgot I had to have them until Tim and I went to the beach last month. We were perusing the shops in Rosemary Beach where I found these and couldn’t leave without them!
Lets talk about my facial hair. Okay let’s not but I’ve already started drafting a post titled “Chin Hairs, Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People”. Be on the lookout for that.
Whatever, the earrings are really cute right?! Love them. Good old Smith and Wesson Federals.
(Thanks for the photos Vicky Reddish!)
What are some of your favorite accessories you’ve found lately?
Happy Monday gals! I don’t know about ya’ll but this weekend absolutely flew by! It was packed with things to do but they were all wonderful! Saturday I went to a makeup class at the MAC store. It was really fun and informative and I learned a lot! Then yesterday was Easter of course and it was a great day celebrating with family. The Easter bunny left Tim an Easter basket that he somehow missed even though the Easter bunny put the basket right next to Tim’s iPad because that’s the first thing he goes to in the morning. How you overlook a bright colorful basket is beyond me. I knew I should have put it on top of his iPad. Anyway. I told him about it as we were walking out the door for church in case he wanted to throw some jellybeans in his pocket for the road.
One of the products I learned about in the class on Saturday was CC (color correcting) cream. I struggle everyday with redness on my face so I listened closely when they were talking about a product that neutralizes it. It comes in four shades so there are other ways it can correct your color but redness is my issue so I chose the ‘Neutralize’ shade. I picked some up after the class and used it all weekend and I can honestly tell a big difference. I put it on after my moisturizer and before my foundation. I love it!
Have you tried CC cream?
I always loved dying eggs at Easter so Tim and I grabbed a Paas dye kit at Target and spent the evening watching eggs sit in cups. And boy was it exciting. Just kidding. Most of the time I forgot that I was doing it which is why we ended up with so many really bright colors. But that’s what happens when you leave them in for an hour. I remember it being a lot more exciting when I was younger. Though I’m not really sure why. But at least my hard boiled eggs are cuter for snack time!
Maybe when we have kids it will be fun again. But realistically it will probably be something that I dread because the children will make a huge mess and have colorful hands for days.
But we’ll do it anyway because our parents helped us dye eggs. And it’s just the right thing to do.
Who wants to dye eggs now?
Last week Tim and I had the most delicious meal. He made blackened salmon and I made a cream that perfectly complimented the flavors of the fish. We put it in a flour tortilla with a little cilantro and then we ate every bite because it was so good. This will definitely be a frequent summertime supper at our house. It was so quick and easy.
The cream was a result of last minute thinking and whatever we had in the fridge and holy cow it was yum. I was originally going to make creme fraiche but I’d never made it before and didn’t realize that it needed a million (12-16) hours to set and I only had 30 minutes. Oops! The recipe makes about 6 tacos so this was two meals for both of us.
Here is the recipe!
Makes six tacos
4 fillets of Wild caught salmon
Blackened cajun seasoning (we used whole foods brand)
1 TB raw butter, grass-fed butter or coconut oil
6 flour tortillas
For the cream:
1 avocado peeled and cubed
1/2 cup of ricotta cheese
1 TB of cilantro
1 TB lemon juice
Sprinkle the salmon with blackened cajun seasoning. Cook salmon in the butter or oil in a preheated skillet on medium high heat for about 6 minutes on each side.
While the salmon is cooking, put the ingredients for the cream into a food processor and blend until creamy.
Place salmon in a warm tortilla with a dollop of the cream, or two, and sprinkle with fresh cilantro.
Tim warmed the tortillas by putting a little more butter in the skillet and frying on both sides for a minute. This was delicious because they were a little crunchy but he has an awesome metabolism and I don’t so there’s that.
Let me know if you make this! You won’t be sorry.
Growing up, every Easter morning before church my mom would have us look for our Easter baskets she had hidden around the house. Mine was usually in the oven so that was the first place I’d look. The basket was filled with starburst jellybeans (YUM) and chocolate and sweet little gifts. Such a fun tradition because guess what, I LOVE GIFTS. I love to receive gifts and I love to give them.
Well I’m all grown up and married now so I don’t expect a visit from the Easter bunny until we have kids of our own. But a gal can dream and if the Easter Bunny was real (and rich), here’s what I’d hope he would bring me.
Organic jelly beans! They have these ones at Whole Foods:
This nail polish is so cute! Definitely a great spring color! I love all of the essie colors at Target.
This phone case. If I could time travel I would go back in time to when I bought my phone case so I could buy this one instead. It’s so gorgeous and you can actually see the pretty gold iphone!
I was just at the MAC store today and saw this palette. Those colors will be so beautiful this summer!! I will have to save my money for this one :) I absolutely love these new lip pencils from MAC. I haven’t been able to choose which color I want but I have tried a few on and they’re great. They’re sort of a cross between lipstick and lipgloss. Must have!
What would be in your dream Easter basket?
If you’ve never been to Columbia, Tennessee for Mule Day, you’re missing out. It’s actually not just one day, it’s seven. But we just went to one, we picked the day with the parade of course. Mules and horses as far as the eye could see, it was the best parade I’d ever seen. Then we headed over to the park where all the action was. I say we headed there but what I really meant was, we sat in traffic for an hour because everyone else who was at the parade was also headed toward the action. But it was just fine. The weather was nice and I was with two of my favorite men, my husband and my pappy and my favorite three year old, Eva. I also had the joy of taking Eva to her first port-a-potty. She thought it was “magic” that we didn’t have to flush. Oh to see the world through a child’s eyes.
Pappy said he’d been wanting to go to Mule Day for 35 years. So finally the stars aligned and he was down here the same weekend and Tim and I had the high honor of accompanying him to his first Mule Day. And it was the best day. We watched the mule show and the mule pull where we saw mules try to pull 5,000 pounds! Then we ate all the terrible fair food. Eva had cotton candy, a corn dog, french fries and ice cream. Sorry Brittany!
Oh hey mules, don’t mind us.
Eva wasn’t scared and pet all of the animals. She’s just like her Di Di.
It’s a little teeny tiny mule!
If you’re ever looking for Tim and Eva, they’re probably climbing a fence somewhere. They were watching the mule show.
These two love each other! So sweet.
It was such a wonderful day and a wonderful memory! Can’t wait for next year’s Mule Day!
Tim in his sleep last night (approximately 1:00 AM):
“OH! Vampires! Yes, vampires. That makes sense. Doesn’t it? Doesn’t it?!”
I am convinced that he is solving mysteries every night in his sleep, he typically says “that makes sense” after shouting something random like “Rubberbands! Yes that makes sense.”
Which is the irony because it never makes sense to me. The wife. Sleeping soundly. Until my husband scares me to death in the middle of the night. I swear I won’t know when a real emergency is happening because of the number of times he has woken me up in a panic.
I love him.
Okay so now onto my favorite things from the internet this week:
1. Kristen Bell is amazing.
2. There is an awesome site that launched this week called gener.us. Its going to change the world. Congratulations Paul on launching!
3. I will soon be baking “next level” cookies. I ordered a horse cookie cutter and a unicorn cookie cutter.
They came in the mail yesterday and the unicorn was BROKEN. It was very upsetting. This morning I asked Tim if he was going to email the unicorn people and he started laughing hysterically. I still don’t know what was funny.
4. I love this article from Dr. Oz about the benefits of coconut oil.
5. I’m buying this coffee mug today. Because Lord knows I need more of those.
What are your plans for the weekend? I plan on watching Beauty and the Beast at least once and dying some Easter eggs.
I’m currently drinking one of the best cups of coffee I’ve ever had. Seriously. It has totally made my morning even better! And what did I do? I added 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, 1 teaspoon of raw butter and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla! I poured two cups of brewed coffee into my blendtec blender and added all of the other ingredients and blended on high for 20 seconds. Voila! Best. Morning. Ever.
I got the recipe here: http://wellnessmama.com/5673/the-only-way-i-drink-coffee/
You should definitely try it.
In honor of the first day of April and the beautiful weather and sunshine, I decided to share a refreshing favorite of mine and it’s so easy to make! I like to brew up this tea whenever I have a craving for Coke. It’s just a little sweet, a little minty and a lot delicious. :)
This is all you need:
8 Black tea bags
1 Spearmint tea bag, or two! You can also use peppermint tea but spearmint is more subtle and refreshing if you ask me.
I use Plantation Mint
And then a little something sweet. I used a tablespoon of raw honey. But stevia is good too. Or add sugar if you’re feeling a little crazy. It’s your life.
Start by bringing two cups of water to a rapid boil in a small saucepan.
Remove from heat.
Add all of the the tea bags.
Let steep for 5-6 minutes.
Remove tea bags and pour tea into a large glass container.
Add sweetener of your choice while it’s still hot.
Then add 6 more cups of water (room temperature is best) and allow to cool.
Pour it over some ice and grab a cute straw and you’ll forget that coke even exists.
And you’ll forget that winter was just a few weeks ago.
What are some of your favorite summer refreshers?
This product is a staple in my makeup bag. I put it on every morning after I wash my face. This stuff works as a moisturizer, primer and it’s tinted so you can even just wear it by itself. Most days I don’t wear my liquid foundation and I will just put on the beauty balm and then my studio fix powder. Great coverage and it’s so quick, easy and feels light on my face. It’s such a time saver, you practically gain extra minutes in the morning. It’s liked you time travel! If only I could time travel back far enough to the moment I over-tweezed my eyebrows in high school.
I have only tried one other “BB” cream and I didn’t like it one bit. It felt really thick and oily. It was Lancome. I don’t recommend it.
Has anyone tried any “BB” creams that the drugstore or Target has to offer?
