Makeup Tip Monday

25 Mar

Today’s makeup tip Monday comes from my friend Vicky’s blog. Vicky is one of my nearest and dearest friends. She is such a treasure to me. A couple of weeks ago she stopped by and we went through my entire daily makeup routine for a blog post she was working on. So I’m stealing it from her because it’s cold outside and winter zaps my creativity and my joy which happen to be the two most important things I need in order to write a ‘Makeup Tip Monday’. Okay so maybe I’m just being lazy but it did snow today and snow makes me cry.

Anyway..check out my daily makeup routine on lovelyhealthywhole.typepad.com

Friday Favorites!

8 Mar

Here are some fresh Friday favorites for fun friends!

Favorite Phonetic: Aliteration. (It counts as phonetics if you say it out loud. right?)

Favorite Song: ‘No Diggity’ by Chet Faker. A new spin on an old favorite. Shout out to my friend who goes by the name ‘The Owlish Ham’ (don’t ask) for showing me this yesterday.

Favorite Show: Parenthood. I’ve watched the first three episodes and I’m totally hooked. So good.

Favorite desktop backgrounds: I don’t know about you, but I’m always looking for cute backgrounds for my macbook air. This blog that I love Design Love Fest posted some super cute designs. I am currently using the heart background. duh.

Favorite Hair Product: Batiste Dry Shampoo. Because ain’t nobody got time to wash and blowdry their hair everyday! They make some for every hair color, I was using the light tint this week before I got my hair done yesterday, it helped my roots to not be so obvious. And yes, I stuck with blonde and didn’t go dark. I’m afraid of change.

That’s all. I gotta go squeeze in another episode of Parenthood before dinner with my beautiful gal pal Danielle and the seriously handsome coach.

What are some of your favorite things from this week?

The Best Prank Ever.

7 Mar

It was my senior year of high school, just a typical Monday morning and I was running a little late. Well probably a lot late. It was my senior year after all, and I didn’t even have an actual class first period. Once I finished applying my white eyeliner and glitter eyeshadow (I’ve come a long way), I slid on my navy blue adidas sandals and hit the door running. But, something was amiss with my 1992 Honda Accord with the dent in the trunk. The entire passenger side of the car was HOT PINK. I’m talking florescent. From a distance, it honestly looked like the car had been painted. I was strangely upset about the new paint job, even though I’ve never had a problem with hot pink. I mean honestly, at least paint the whole car and not just the passenger side! But as I got closer, I realized that this wasn’t paint after all. It was hundreds of post-it notes perfectly lined and covering the side of my car.  Well I couldn’t drive to school that way! The sticky notes would have fallen off and I would have been littering. So I had to get them all off, one by one, which made me even later for school. I can’t even remember if I made it to first period that day at all. What I did know was that someone got me good.

The 2013 Diana would have just tweeted about it or sent out a mass text to find out who did this. But, it was 2004. We didn’t have facebook or twitter and definitely not unlimited texting. All we had was xanga and voteforfun.com. We also used the ancient method of writing messages to each other via pen and paper, folding them up neatly and passing them to our friends directly or sliding them through the vents in our lockers. Weird right? Anyway. I finally I heard my sprint flip phone ringing (my ringtone was “Milkshake”, I really wish that wasn’t true) I pulled up the antenna and answered. It was the culprit.

Moral of the story, don’t wear white eyeliner and glitter eyeshadow.

Makeup Tip Monday – Combat Dry Skin!

4 Mar

A couple of weeks ago I got a text from Coach and it said, “Good morning, I exfoliated.” I was so proud. This text followed a discussion where I shared with him the benefits of exfoliating and moisturizing his face, especially in the winter months.

He teaches me about nutrition and my retirement plan. I teach him about skincare and ponies and kittens. I’m just so glad we are able to enrich each others lives in such ways.

Anyway. I’m sure ya’ll would agree that it’s tough for us gals to put makeup on with dry skin and exfoliating helps keep flaking at bay and scrubs away those dead skin cells. It also helps our face look more radiant as the dead skin tends to dull our complexion.

All you need is a good facial scrub to get the job done.

I use Target’s Apricot Scrub and it works great. I’ve used it for years.

Oh and don’t forget to follow up with a good moisturizer.

Also, if your feet, knees and elbows are looking dry, try this simple recipe for a body scrub that my darling friend Angie taught me. I love her, we share an affinity for beauty products.

Here’s what you do:

Take 1/2 cup of coconut oil and 3/4 cup brown sugar.

Scoop the coconut oil into a microwave safe dish, microwave until it’s melted into liquid form.

Stir in the brown sugar and voila you’ve made you’re very own body scrub.

The coconut oil helps to moisturize while the brown sugar scrubs away the dry skin.

Another great remedy is to moisturize as soon as you turn off the shower. The steam will help your skin absorb the moisture better. My Aunt Kim taught me that trick, she has beautiful skin so I listen to her.

What are some of your tricks to keep your skin healthy and moisturized?

This blog post is dedicated to my favorite things from this week.

First things first. Happy one week birthday to my manicure. Still looking good. Shout out to my girl Emily at the Venetian in Green Hills. Nailed it. See what I did there?20130301-125129.jpg

FAVORITE song: Oceans (Where Feet May Fall) by Hillsong United

Have ya’ll heard this song? It’s been on repeat in my iTunes ever since Megan told me about it on Wednesday. Such a great song and the lyrics have been my prayer all week.

“Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders.
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever you would call me.”

FAVORITE website: craigslist

Coach and I will be out all weekend shopping for a new (used) car for me. My hope is that next week I can have a series entitled “The Craigslist Chronicles” which will feature the encounters we have with assorted craigslist car salesmen. I love craigslist. Last time I sold some things I got invited to a bonfire. Here’s to new friendships!

FAVORITE instagram account to follow: Bunnymama

If you love cute photos of bunnies, you will die.

FAVORITE youtube video: Taylor Swift ‘Trouble’ (Goat edition)

Also, this brings me to my FAVORITE question of the week: Do I color my hair brown or leave it blonde? I really love Taylor Swift’s brown haircolor in that video and lately I have been going back and forth between wanting to be blonde and wanting to be brunette. I’m not a natural blonde (gasp) and my hair grows back so quickly and there’s alot of upkeep. Last week my little cousin Bella asked me what the black line was in my hair. She was referring to my roots. Whats a gal to do? Blonde or brown? I have a hair appointment next Thursday with the amazing Abby. Hopefully I can decide by then.

Okay that’s all.

Happy Friday ya’ll.

5 tips for having the best time at the monster truck rally.

26 Feb

If you look up the definition of true love, you will find that it means when your girl wants to see monster trucks, you take her to see monster trucks. Therefore, Tim took me to Monster Jam last month. Now if you’re a lady like myself, you may have a difficult time preparing for such an event. Here are my top 5 tips for having the best time at the monster truck rally:

1. Ride to the event in a jeep. Preferably one that has a loudspeaker that makes animal sounds. This way when you’re driving down the street, you can mooo at the pedestrians. It’s fun for everybody involved. You can have some good ole American fun before you even get there. That’s what we did and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.

2. You don’t want to wear nothin too fancy. You’re gonna smell like dirt and exhaust fumes when you leave. I wore my airbrushed pony t-shirt.

3. Go with the right people. Friends who appreciate monster trucks and won’t judge you when you’re cheering loudly for Gravedigger the ultimate monster truck.

4. You most definitely need to be in the front row. This way when the wheels are spinning up the dirt, it hits you in the face.

5. Make posters for your favorite trucks. You know, ones that say “Gravedigger rules” etc. And be sure and use glitter. I didn’t know to do this last time but gosh 2014 Monster Jam, Imma be ready.

Hopefully this helps.

Makeup Tip Monday: The little things in life.

25 Feb

To me, it’s the little things that can really make my day. The elevator at work opening just as I am about to press the button, a fresh cup of coffee, a text from coach to tell me good morning. Lately, the little things have been wearing pink, anything pink. So obviously my objective this weekend was to do so.

Friday night, I went out with the amazing ladies from my church small group and had a grand ole time. We ended up at a nail salon after dinner and everyone got manis, it was so fun! I ended up with hot pink nails.

And then Saturday night, coach picked me up to take me out on a date. When I asked him where we were going, his response was vague and the look on his face told me he hadn’t decided yet. This was great news because all day I thought about the MAC counter at the mall and how they probably have the perfect shade of pink lipgloss just waiting there for me. So I said to him, Let’s go to the mall and buy lipgloss! Of course, he obliged because love means going to the mall to buy lipgloss on a Saturday night. I ended up with MAC’s ‘Partial to Pink’, it was exactly what I was looking for. Then we saw ‘Safe Haven’ and it was terrible and I cried.

We all need a good gloss to wear everyday. Today I didn’t wear a stitch of makeup except for this gloss.

Yesterday we went to beautiful Radnor lake for a little walk after church. I knew I’d end up putting my hair in a ponytail so I brought along my pink Emi Jay hair-tie. I love these things! I bought some at Therapy Systems in Green Hills mall last summer and they’ve become some of my favorite accessories.

Okay so that’s all.

What are the little things that make you feel pretty?

XOXO
